I ran into a friend of mine today. We walked around for a little while and then went to her house. I think I love her -- in the sense that there is much I would do for her without expecting anything in return. She is the sort of person that reminds you that God made people much like He made snowflakes, in that no two are the same... and some of them are just so extraordinary in the way that they were formed.

My little cousin's birthday party took place today. He's just beginning string words together and he was quite infatuated by the concept of popping a balloon. He's still at the age where his world seems to stop just a few feet in front of him. While on the surface it seemed that the gathering was taking place at his level, in truth much of it was going on about five feet above him at the level of those adults who probably seem to him so inexplicably distant. They often seem distant to me too. I did have an interesting conversation about the hagiographies of medieval saints with one of the guests though.
I recently asked someone out. It was impulsive. On a whim. I figured I had to follow up on it so I messaged them. They told me they had changed their mind and I simply felt relieved. Sure, they were cute, but were we really compatible? I know what happens when I start dating someone I know I'm not compatible with, even if I try to make myself believe otherwise. I become so afraid that I might one day meet someone else and I would be faced with the option to commit the most heinous sin of adultery or turn away the true love of my life for the substitute. I learned that this fear is not sustainable. Falling into lust does not look like mere self-pleasure. It looks like this. Before I know it I'm flirting with someone without asking myself what it might be like to spend the rest of my life with them. I really need to stop doing that.
My dear friend T sent me a message this evening as I was eating fish sticks notifying me that he was in the area and wanted to meet. He told me to bring my acoustic guitar. I obliged, and we walked around the neighbourhood trading the guitar back and forth and playing some of our favourite songs and belting the lyrics. It was a good night. It was a wonderful night.
